Who We Are
Managing Director, Joe McDermott, has 30 years’ experience in construction, civil engineering and planning. With a wealth of practical insight, Joe advises clients on plans which really work – and those which will deliver the very best outcome or greatest commercial return.
Anyone can spot a clear development opportunity, but over 80% of the planning proposals which Joe has turned into reality during his long career have been far from obvious. This unique talent for identifying hidden opportunities, combined with an innovative and resourceful approach, sets Joe and Albright Dene apart.
Planning Director, Gareth Capner is a senior advisor to the planning team at Albright Dene. A leading authority in UK planning over four decades, Gareth brings a depth and breadth of planning experience and knowledge which is unparalleled across the profession.
He graduated from Sheffield University in 1970 after attending its first ever Town and Regional Planning course. He worked for Berkshire and Kent County Councils and the Ministry of Housing and Local Government before joining architects Barton Willmore in 1979 as their first Town Planner. Gareth helped to grow Barton Willmore to its current status as one of the largest independent planning and design consultancies, before retiring as Senior Partner in 2008.
Gareth provides strategic property advice to companies, institutions and Neighbourhood Plan Committees; gives business advice to growing consultancies and is Chairman of HM Government’s Housing Design Awards.
A practising lawyer for 15 years before turning to the planning profession, André Botha is Albright Dene’s Senior Planner.
Working closely with the Managing Director, André is responsible for identifying, researching, and progressing residential planning and development opportunities. He is fully conversant with all the legal provisions and restrictions covered by local planning systems and regulations across a wide range of council, metropolitan and district areas in the UK.
He interprets policies and, working with our in-house architect, translates them into highly effective and achievable design proposals. He is able to craft persuasive planning arguments and, alongside other members of the planning team, manages the entire planning process from concept to completion.
